Prostaglandins are hormones which assist the birth process. During the second half of a pregnancy, injecting concentrations of them into the amniotic sac induces violent labor and premature birth of a child usually too young to survive. Since babies are sometimes born alive, and occasionally survive, salt or other toxins may be used to insure that the baby is delivered dead.
